If you’ve ever wondered what the pilot looks like while performing some of those awesome jet demos at airshows, this video is for you. It was shot with a minicam pointed back at the pilot while he performed some aerobatics at an airshow, presumably in Finland.
The aircraft is an F/A-18. It’s very likely a Finnish C-model. I’m not really sure as the video lists F/A-18N as the model designation, but I don’t think there is any such model unless they are using it to distinguish a Naval variant. If anyone has any further information on the aircraft, feel free to leave a comment straightening things out. I’m genuinely curious.
Anyway, the video is pretty cool because you can see out the back of the canopy, so you get a good idea what’s going on and you can see the forces being exerted on the pilot. Also if you watch carefully, you can see the control inputs the pilot makes. The most interesting part of the video to me is the actuation of the leading edge slats.
That’s all for today. Enjoy your ride.

Hello, my name is Matt Everett and as of 1/1/2010 I am a private pilot ASEL. I started this blog early in my training and used it primarily as a place to keep notes of my lessons. Since then it has grown to much more than that, but my main focus is still on aviation experiences.
