Last summer the nonprofit Sun ‘n Fun organization got a new president. John “Lites” Leenhouts, a veteran Naval aviator, was named president of the organization. He brought a multitude of new ideas and a level of enthusiasm for the show that is positively contagious.
According to a recent AvWeb report, the two big focuses this year are customer service and aviation education/careers. Leenhouts desire for the show as reported by AvWeb is for “all of our guests to leave here feeling inspired and educated, and with a plan for moving forward if they want an aviation career or to learn how to fly.” Watch the video above for a brief interview with Leenhouts regarding this year’s show. Also, be sure to look at all the memorabilia in the background; it is quite a collection of goodies.
He is also working on plans for the future including a new weekend fly-in/bbq/car show, which has been scheduled for 9 and 10 November of this year. From the way things sound, I’m sure Leenhouts will be a huge asset to the show and the organization as a whole, if for no other reason than he has attended the show for the past 30 years.
As for today’s events, the following video is a brief overview of the happenings in Lakeland. It’s short, but it provides a pretty decent taste of the show. The only thing I don’t care for is the music. I would have preferred airplane noise, especially toward the end when that 4-engined behemoth called FiFi made her appearance.
Looks like beautiful weather down there. I hope it continues all week. If you’re at Sun ‘n Fun, have a great week and enjoy the show. Since I’m not, I’ve got get back to mowing the lawn. Maybe I can pretend I’m flying?

Hello, my name is Matt Everett and as of 1/1/2010 I am a private pilot ASEL. I started this blog early in my training and used it primarily as a place to keep notes of my lessons. Since then it has grown to much more than that, but my main focus is still on aviation experiences.
