Sometimes I don't understand…

0 Comments 06 September 2010

I work at an airport that is located in Class C airspace. It has a fairly sizable set regional air carriers that fly daily as well as a decently sized general aviation population and a cargo ramp for UPS and FedEx. Due to the very diverse nature of flying that goes on the airport plays host to a pretty significant TSA population, which as we know is a child agency of the Department of Homeland Security. I was reading a post on AvWeb today about some flyers that DHS recently left at an airport in North Carolina.

The flyer, which you can see to the left contains several indicators of “suspicious” activities that aren’t really all that suspicious. My favorite ones, as a potential aircraft owner is “flying an aircraft that is worn out but has a very nice GPS system.” That’s very suspicious.

Unfortunately, there are more people that according to this list would be considered suspicious than there are people to call and report them. I guess I’d better think twice about buying an old 150 and putting a Garmin 430 in it for instrument training. No matter how much I enjoy flying, I wouldn’t want to be taken at gun point and put in a police cruiser after a fight.

Anyway, take a look at the post by clicking here or on the image. How many suspicious activities are you guilty of?

About the author

Hello, my name is Matt Everett and as of 1/1/2010 I am a private pilot ASEL. I started this blog early in my training and used it primarily as a place to keep notes of my lessons. Since then it has grown to much more than that, but my main focus is still on aviation experiences. It is my sincerest hope that this blog is a resource for others as much as it is a resource for me.
