That's a good point, although I wouldn't rule out the possibility that we've witnessed a test flight of the world's fastest Cessna 180.

I'm more surprised that aircraft are not on patrol during the TFRs... they have to launch from the field instead.

They couldn't even catch a Cessna 180 on floats going supersonic. If was a real threat, I would imagine it would come from something faster than a 180.

It's not my video, I came across it and the debate surrounding it and thought I might offer my 2 cents via my blog. Your assessment of the landing is generally correct, but I can't recommend pushing. If you push during a bounce, whether you add power or not, you are setting up for a classic nose wheel landing and a potential collapse like in the video. The best method is to level out and add power, then if you have a chance try again or go around.

Where the real trouble is introduced in the video is when the instructor starts instructing during a critical phase. Once he started gesturing, he distracted the student and took away his own ability to rescue the landing. The end result was a broken plane and two shaken pilots.

One thing you didn't mention that I noticed in the video, you had a touch down and then bounce back, your airspeed was enough to cause that effect, airplane didn't fly 3-5 feet over the runway long enough to bleed airspeed, instead you rush to land, or didn't pull back enough to hold yourself 3 feet, airplane hit the ground and because of exceeding airspeed, she airborne again, I think you balloon and after that you should go full power and then push forward, if you don't go full power and only push forward I think you will end up in the situation that exactly happened.

Just my 2 cents, I'm student pilot same as you and still learning, I have same problem during the landings, fast approach and ballooning.

I'm glad you guys walk out safe, the plane damage will be fixed and you will be better pilot.

Safe landings,
Patrick

Finally a real aviation show. This, combined with the movie "A Pilots Story" should give General Aviation some much needed positive press.
