Bad News from Sun ‘n Fun 2011

No Comments 31 March 2011

I'd like to start out by saying that I hope everything works out as best it can for everyone that is actually at Sun 'n Fun. From what I understand, some severe storms and potentially a tornado tore through the airport there earlier today. According to the event staff, no major injuries were reported and,... Read more »

Things are getting out of control

No Comments 30 August 2010

I'd like to begin this post by asking a question. How many people would like to be taken from your vehicle at gunpoint, handcuffed and detained because several years ago someone stole a car with a license plate number that matches the one the state just assigned your new car? I don't imagine very many... Read more »

I'd like to lodge a complaint

2 Comments 19 August 2010

Recent events have gotten me thinking, and I've got to say I'm a little put out with this whole Presidential visit TFR thing. Especially since I receive a notice in my email inbox nearly every week. The problem, and source of my complaint, the notices never pop up more than 1 day ahead of time.... Read more »

Sean D. Tucker

No Comments 29 July 2010

One of the performances I'm most looking forward to is Sean D. Tucker in the Oracle Challenger III. After the recent announcement of the Challenger III, I started eying air-shows for an opportunity to see Sean perform. He is one of the most talented aerobatic performers and he really puts on a show with the... Read more »

Some Exciting Things From Oshkosh

2 Comments 28 July 2010

As expected, some of the early announcements have already filtered out of Oshkosh.  There have been some pretty exciting things coming out so far.  There are a handful of them that I've come across that are personally very exciting.  The Sonex Onex, the Cobalt 50, and the TV series The Aviators. At its most basic,... Read more »

Can't Make it to Oshkosh?

1 Comment 22 July 2010

It's that time of year.  Next week is the aviation event that we all look forward to -- Airventure in Oshkosh.  I'm trying to get  my own little pilgrimage together for the last half of the week.  I will be closely following the event all week though.  As a matter of public service, I would... Video: Supersonic Shockwave Phenomena

2 Comments 21 June 2010

This video from AVweb ranks very high on my list of best videos on Youtube.  It packs a lot of visual punch in its 3 minute duration.  Don't give up on it early or you will miss the best part: the shockwaves coming off the atlas rocket.

Strange Aircraft

No Comments 19 May 2010

I don't want you to think I'm turning this into some kind of Youtube aggregator, but after reading about this aircraft on AvWeb and hearing about it on Uncontrolled Airspace (I think), I just have to post this. It's the Woopy-Fly. The page is in French, so be warned that unless you read French you might not know... Read more »

A look at the traffic pattern

No Comments 12 April 2010

I primarily fly out of TYS, a class c towered field, so my traffic patterns are driven primarily by the tower. Sometimes however, they have an empty pattern and it is up to me to fly appropriately. I would also like to point out that my flight instructor has never worn "the pilot shirt," so his teaching was pretty in line with this video. I guess I got lucky.... Read more »

About the author

Hello, my name is Matt Everett and as of 1/1/2010 I am a private pilot ASEL. I started this blog early in my training and used it primarily as a place to keep notes of my lessons. Since then it has grown to much more than that, but my main focus is still on aviation experiences. It is my sincerest hope that this blog is a resource for others as much as it is a resource for me.
