Unfortunately the birds (big vultures I might add) were now quite agitated. The end result being that just as we were reaching the edge of the pavement, the birds began flying right were we wanted to go. I reacted quickly and I think I surprised Josh when I went full throttle, called a go around and added full power. It was a good go around. Of the three I would say that the middle one was the best. It seems that landing is like when I make pancakes, the first one isn't so good but the rest are edible. My own assessment is that I am failing to grasp the intensity of control inputs required.... Read more »

if things are ever completely normal, I am afraid I won't be able to cope. Every lesson since I started handling the radios something has been "abnormal." Never anything big, but not standard procedures. I don't think I've ever actually radioed ground control and I've done everything from extending downwind to a 360 between base and final. In an effort to be smooth I was trying to maintain glide as best as possible and I was doing perfectly. As we got near the runway I slowed the descent as smoothly as I could and let the speed bleed off. I new we were in ground effect so I just let it float a little bit as we slowed down maintaining pitch so that we didn't slam down on the runway. By the end of the relatively short float the stall horn went off and the airplane settled silently onto the runway. There were no bumps or anything.... Read more »
