If you’re a fan of warbirds and you’re (presumably) not a fan of littering, have I got a treat for you. It’s a long lost (I’m basing this on some of the comments) commercial from Texas. It was born out of a partnership with the State of Texas and the (then) Confederate Air Force. At the time, Texas was running a series of anti-littering commercials based around the tag line, “Don’t mess with Texas.” Well, this particular commercial includes 17 reasons not to litter in Texas, that is to say it includes a B-17.
If you haven’t already watched the video above, do so now. It is short, but it includes a heck of a low pass by a B-17. Once you’re satisfied, maybe you watched it multiple times, check out the following video on how they made it. Well, it really seems more like 9 minutes of low passes, many by the B-17, several others by fighters and best of all the B-17 with escorts.
Pretty cool if I don’t say so. I mean really, a low pass in a P-51 or F-4U is one thing, but a set of four radial engines toting that mass of metal right on the deck is something else. Put them together and you’ve got yourself way too much fun. Although, I still can’t figure out why the people kept ducking. I mean, who wouldn’t want their head chopped off by a low-flying heavy bomber?
