I look at a lot of websites and I consume a lot of web content. I’m probably not all that different from a lot of people these days, but I say this because I’ve found a website that made me say “Wow!” Now, I have two confessions to make:
- This page might not fit into some definitions of warbird
- I’m not generally wowed by flash/silverlight heavy pages. In fact, most of the time I hate them.
Are you curious what website to which I’m referring? Well, the answer may surprise you, but it’s the Blue Angels’ site. If I recall correctly, they recently overhauled the page and I have to say they’ve done an exceptional job. It makes it easy to find information like the schedule or team members and it is very visually appealing. From the beginning you are presented with a nice little video background intro that doesn’t get in the way of actually using the page.
Honestly, if there is one piece of the site that I can single out and say it is required viewing, it’s the Inside the Demo page. This particular page offers unparalleled insights into both the C-130 and F-18 demos. Basically, it provides three camera views of every maneuver, an animation, and an explanation of the maneuver. For the Fat Albert demo, there are front-facing and rear-facing views inside the cockpit as well as an external view. Similarly, the team demo includes shots from the Boss’ cockpit, shots from cockpit of the slot position, shots from the solos. The amount of video and perspectives available are amazing and, in case you don’t want to watch the entire show, you can select specific maneuvers. The only thing better would be actually getting to ride along.
My description doesn’t really do the site justice, so if you haven’t already, check it out here.
