In case you’ve missed the memo or you’re not on the list for the memos, Sun ‘n Fun starts today. The official details are April 13th through the 18th at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport (KLAL) in Florida. It is one of the larger fly-in air shows and I’m sure fun will be had by all who attend. Unfortunately, I won’t likely be enjoying the sun nor the fun as I am unable to make my way to Florida this week. That won’t stop me from enjoying what I can of the event via third parties. I will attempt to compile a list of resources here that will offer some assistance to those poor souls that are unable to have the firsthand experience. In case you are wondering, yes the USAF Thunderbirds are going to perform at Sun ‘n Fun again this year. I’m really sorry to miss that.
The first resource to consider, as with most things, is the actual event website. This can be found at http://www.sun-n-fun.org/. The site has event schedules, multimedia, and other information regarding the fly in. It looks like they will post the show daily newspaper. Regardless, it is the first place to look for information on what’s happening at Sun ‘n Fun. You can also check out their Facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sun-n-Fun/112938012053332.
Another great place to follow goings on is Twitter. There are two hash tags that are established related to Sun ‘n Fun: #NotAtSnF and snf10. You can also follow the Twitter user @SunnFunFlyIn for official tweets. Please also consider following @snfradio, @snfradiodave and @LiveATC for the latest on the Sun ‘n Fun radio station and live internet streaming. The LiveATC stream of the Sun ‘n Fun radio station can be found at http://www.liveatc.net/SnFLive or by searching on KLAL on LiveATC.net. There are also streams for the Lake Parker Arrival and KLAL Tower so you can listen to aircraft arrivals.
For even more, check your favorite aviation podcasts. The UCAP guys are confirmed for two live podcasts on the radio station. They can be found at uncontrolledairspace.com. Another podcast to follow is the Pilots Flight Podlog. Will and Dave will be posting quickcasts during the week which are usually great. You can find them at pilotsflightpodlog.com. I’m sure others podcasters and bloggers will be there as well, but one notable exception is Airspeed. Be not dismayed Airspeed fans! @StephenForce appears to be in charge of a ‘not at Sun ‘n Fun podcast’ that will be broadcast on Sun ‘n Fun Radio.
The most up to date information on AOPA and their participation can be found at AOPA.org. The most notable event is the Road + Runway Rally featuring the Remos GX sweepstakes plane and a Smart Fourtwo. You can follow along here: http://www.aopa.org/sweeps/rally2010.html. They will also be doing a number of AOPA Live segments later in the week.
Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!
