Tomorrow will be our last full day here at AirVenture 2011. It has been a great week and I’ll be sad it’s over, but I’m kinda looking forward to my own bed and seeing my wife and dog.

Anyway, it stayed overcast all day on Thursday and in fact it rained more. It wasn’t a bad day overall, but I really screwed up and I paid for it. I decided that I was going to go over to Pioneer and take a ride in one of the Bell 47s. Unfortunately, I decided the best way to get there was to walk through Warbirds, out the North 40, and around to Pioneer. That was a terrible mistake: that’s really not how to get there and a long way to boot. Anyway, my mistake was slightly rewarded by a very close view of the Farmer’s Airship landing and taking off.

As for the rest of the day, I was beat but happy (I got to ride in a helicopter). A couple of jets over-ran the runway the F-16’s nose-gear collapsed, but the Fury made it out without any damage. The overcast broke just in time for sunset Thursday and Friday dawned severe clear and a little hot. The heat helped dry out the roads somewhat, but some places are still a mess. To sum it up in a word, Friday was great. I spent some time up in the Ultralights and thoroughly investigated the Vintage camping.

The following photos are a selection of my photos from the last couple of days:
