I’d like to confess something that has been eating me for quite some time: it has been more than 4 months since I’ve flown. I didn’t want to take such a long break, but things have happened and what started as a short financial recovery break (post house purchase) turned into 4 months of gazing at the sky wishing to get airborne again. I won’t really go into what’s gone on in the last little bit, because there’s really nothing of note.
Anyhow, a good pilot always has a plan, so mine is to go down to the flight school schedule a plane and an instructor and get back in the saddle. I hope to get the rust knocked off, get back up-to-date on my rental paperwork, and keep flying. It’s too nice here during the fall to not fly.
To end this really short entry/confession I’d like to ask, what would you recommend focusing on to get the most out of my first flight back? I mean obviously not crashing the plane, but what else?
Just get back in the airplane! Time goes by so fast and before you know it, a half year has slipped by. Believe me, I know. Make time.
I never realized how easy it is to let time slip by, but when you don’t have any specific goals in mind or an instructor breathing down your neck, suddenly time is the only thing flying. Luckily I’ve set some good flying goals this year, and I intend to keep them. Now if only the weather will start cooperating.
It’s like riding a really big bike with little wheels and wings and… wait a sec, nothing like riding a bike, but I’m sure you’ll do fine, get back up in the air!
