I just received an email that has the first hint of the approaching summer (i.e., airshow season)–you other EAA members probably got it, too. I’ll give you a hint: the subject line reads, “[B]uy your AirVenture 2012 tickets and camping today.”

Yep, it’s only 12,009,600 seconds until Airventure 2012 (that’s 139 days). So, are you going? It looks like a really great show is in the works this year. I’ll be interested to see how some of the changes at EAA manifest themselves during the show.

If you haven’t heard, this year is the 75th Anniversary of the Piper Cub. Hopefully there will be lots of little yellow (and not yellow) taildraggers on site to celebrate. I’d love to see a giant formation of cubs fly in a showcase.

Also in the lineup are tributes to the Doolittle Raiders, Tuskegee Airmen, and Paul and Audrey Poberezny as well as a showcase of Van’s Aircraft, which should be awesome. In addition to all that, traditional Airventure events like the Salute to Veterans, Warbirds, night air show and fireworks (i.e., Super Saturday) are also on the schedule.

I’m also sure that there will be a huge to do in the static areas. Based on this year’s LSA expo in Florida, I expect there will be a lot of traffic in the LSA Mall. I say this because a new LSA has caught my attention and I probably won’t get to see one until Airventure. Look for a post on this LSA in the future (maybe they’ll give me a demo ride?).

Anyway, I’ll end my little sales pitch by saying simply: buy your tickets and camping online. Do it now or later, but do it online. I did it last year, not to save money, but time and registration took all of 2 minutes.

That’s really all I’ve got today. I’ve been busy whipping some projects into shape, so I was a little light on ideas today. By the way, I’m in the process of revamping some of the social media profiles related to this page. So, like Leaving Terra Firma on Facebook, follow Leaving Terra Firma, circle Leaving Terra Firma or me on Google+, or do all three. There are things that don’t make it to the blog that you might interest you and, most importantly, I update them all with links to the latest blog content so you’ll never miss an update.
